How to Handle Acne Treatment!

My Journey with Acne Treatment: A Personal Story & Tips for Others

I’m not a doctor or a medical expert, but I want to share my personal experience with acne treatment in hopes it might help others on a similar journey. If you’re considering any form of acne medication, especially something like Oratane, please make sure to consult with a dermatologist before starting.


The Struggles of Hormonal Acne Treatment


During my battle with hormonal acne, I had a lot of fears and doubts. I prayed for good health and was mindful that the powerful medications I was taking could harm me if I didn’t follow the doctor’s advice carefully. I spent hours researching and reading reviews before deciding to begin treatment, ensuring that I understood the potential risks.


One of the most important things I learned was the need to avoid pregnancy while on medication like this, as it can cause birth defects. Always follow your doctor’s prescription to the letter and stay informed about potential side effects.


The Power of Discipline: My Daily Routine


The most crucial aspect of managing my acne wasn’t just the medication—it was the discipline and self-care I built into my daily routine. Healing my skin involved much more than just taking pills; it was about creating a balanced lifestyle and being kind to myself through every step.


Diet: Fueling My Skin from Within


I knew that what I ate played a huge role in my skin’s condition. I focused on preparing healthy meals, full of fruits and vegetables, while avoiding oily foods (no matter how much I craved fries!). My go-to meals included steamed broccoli, carrots, and fish. Every morning, I drank warm water with fresh lemon to detoxify my body and boost my metabolism. I also carried a bottle of water with lemon, cucumber, kiwi, and green apple throughout the day—this wasn’t just refreshing, it helped detoxify my body and keep my calories in check.


Skincare: Gentle & Consistent Care


During my treatment, my skin was incredibly sensitive. I had to be very gentle with it, avoiding anything that could irritate it further.

In the mornings, I washed my face with lukewarm water, followed by a gentle cleanser like Cetaphil. I would rub the soap in my hands first, then gently apply it to my face. After rinsing, I always used tissue paper to dry my face, avoiding towels, which can harbor bacteria and irritate sensitive skin.

For additional skincare, I used a special soap I bought from the Philippines (Meztiza Soap) and ensured that I had my moisturizer, petroleum jelly for my lips, and sunscreen with me at all times. Skincare was something I never skipped—especially the sunscreen, as it helped protect my sensitive skin from harmful UV rays.

In the evenings, I followed the same routine and made sure to moisturize my whole body before bed. Consistency was key!


Avoiding Acne Picking & Peeling


I learned the hard way not to pick at my acne. Even though it was tempting, squeezing pimples can lead to scarring and infection. Instead, I let the acne heal on its own, trusting the treatment to work its magic. I also avoided peeling dry skin, allowing my skin to naturally shed without interference. This helped prevent further irritation.


Managing Medication Side Effects


Taking Oratane comes with its own set of challenges. One of the most common side effects is dryness, which affects your skin, lips, and even your eyes. For me, the dryness was manageable, but I did experience fatigue and emotional ups and downs. The worst part was the loneliness during my emotional lows, as I didn’t have anyone to comfort me during those tough moments.

If you’re undergoing treatment, I highly recommend surrounding yourself with supportive people—family, friends, or loved ones. This can help counteract negative emotions and make the process a lot more bearable.


Tips for Dealing with Side Effects:

• Stay hydrated: Drink plenty of water throughout the day.

• Take care of your mental health: Engage in activities that make you happy and keep negativity at bay.

• Exercise: Even a brisk walk or light jog for 30 minutes can help you feel better physically and emotionally.

• Avoid picking at scars or acne: This can cause infection and worsen the damage.


Key Tips for Acne Treatment Success

• Stick to a healthy diet: Focus on boiled, steamed, or baked foods and include lots of fruits and vegetables.

• Moisturize regularly: Your skin will need all the moisture it can get during treatment.

• Sun protection is essential: Use sunscreen with at least SPF 30 every day, especially if you’re going outside.

• Be patient and consistent: Healing takes time, and consistency is key to seeing results.


What I Used During My Treatment


During the first couple of months of my treatment, I relied on a liquid cleanser to avoid any harsh irritation. I also kept a moisturizing lotion with me at all times to keep my skin hydrated. This simple step helped me manage dryness and discomfort.


I hope my story and these tips help you on your own acne treatment journey. While it’s not always easy, consistency and self-care can make all the difference. And remember, always consult with a healthcare professional before starting any treatment. Stay positive, and take care of yourself—inside and out.

Drink a lot of water detoxify the body put some lemon or other fruits to add some flavour bring it with you refill the bottle when it's empty.
